The Campeonato de España-Copa de Su Majestad el Rey de Fútbol, commonly known as Copa del Rey, is an annual knockout football competition in Spain. The competition was founded in 1902. A total of 125 teams compete in the Copa del Rey, which are all the Spanish football clubs within the top five levels of the football league system. Teams from the regional leagues of the fifth tier play a preliminary round. After this round, all the other teams join the competition, even sixteen clubs from La Liga. Only four teams don’t join yet: the four participants from the Supercopa de España, a competition that is played between number one and two from La Liga and the winner and losing finalist from the previous Copa del Rey.
FC Barcelona is the most successful club in the competition; Athletic Bilbao second. Real Madrid has made it to the Copa del Rey finals, most of all without winning it.
