The English Championship – short for English Football League Championship – is the wealthiest non-top flight football division in the world! Before the foundation of the Premier League, it was the top-flight of English football.
The league is contested by 24 clubs that each play 46 matches every season. The two top-finishing teams in the Championship are automatically promoted to the Premier League; number three to six enter a playoff tournament. The winner of the tournament is also promoted to the Premier League.
The three lowest placed teams (number 22, 23 and 24) are relegated to League One.
